The Fox ESS EP11 is a non-modular, self-contained high-voltage battery system that integrates the battery cells and battery management unit into a single enclosure. Unlike the EQ4800’s stackable tower design, the EP11 is a fixed-capacity unit and additional capacity is added by connecting further EP11 units in parallel rather than stacking modules vertically.

Each EP11 unit provides 10.36 kWh of usable capacity, and systems can be expanded up to a maximum of 41.6 kWh in a parallel configuration. The EP11 suits households that have a clear target capacity in mind and want a clean, uncomplicated installation without modular planning. It is the right choice when space is limited horizontally but the target capacity is well defined.

The Fox ESS CQ6 is the newest and most technically advanced battery in the Fox ESS Australian range. It received CEC approval in January 2026 and represents a significant upgrade over the EQ4800 in terms of energy density per module, safety features, and warranty duration.

Each CQ6 module delivers 5.99 kWh and the system can be configured from 2 modules (11.98 kWh) all the way to 14 modules per stack (83.86 kWh) one of the highest residential storage capacities available in Australia. When paired with the Fox ESS H3 Plus inverter, up to three stacks can be connected in parallel, enabling total system capacity of up to approximately 251.58 kWh for large commercial applications.

The CQ6 also includes a built-in aerosol fire extinguishing module, thermally activated at 170°C a dedicated internal fire suppression system that is an industry first at this price point and a meaningful safety upgrade over the EQ4800.

The warranty is 12 years the longest in the Fox ESS Australian range and among the best available from any battery brand in Australia.

Honest Note on Depth of Discharge: Fox ESS marketing for the CQ6 references 100% DoD. However, the official CQ6 datasheet (EN-CQ6 Datasheet AU v1.2, November 2025) specifies 90% DoD. This means a 5.99 kWh module has approximately 5.39 kWh of usable capacity, not the full 5.99 kWh. This difference compounds across larger systems. LiFePO4 Chemistry — The Safest Battery Technology Every Fox ESS battery available in Australia uses Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4 / LFP) chemistry. Does the Fox ESS Battery Provide Blackout Protection?

This is one of the most important things to understand before purchasing any Fox ESS battery — and it is something competitors often gloss over.

Backup power (EPS) is not included by default in any Fox ESS battery model. The EQ4800, EP11, and CQ6 are all energy storage batteries. They store solar energy and supply it to your home during normal operation. However, if the grid goes down, the battery does not automatically power your home unless your system has been specifically designed and installed for backup operation.

To have blackout protection with a Fox ESS battery you need:

  • A compatible Fox ESS hybrid inverter with EPS (Emergency Power Supply) function enabled
  • A dedicated backup circuit at your switchboard, wired back to the inverter’s backup output
  • Switchboard modifications — typically 5 available breaker spaces are required
  • Clear agreement at the design stage about which circuits will be backed up (typically essential loads: fridge, lights, internet, key power points)

Backup protection does not cover your entire home by default. A priority-circuits approach is standard — your installer identifies the circuits you most need during an outage and connects those specifically. Full whole-home backup is possible in some configurations but requires careful design.
