Product Overview
What Is the GoodWe ESA Battery?
The GoodWe ESA Battery Series is a next-generation, all-in-one residential energy storage system designed for Australian homes and small businesses. Unlike traditional bolt-on battery setups, the ESA combines the hybrid inverter, LiFePO4 battery modules, millisecond-switching UPS backup, and smart Battery Management System (BMS) into a single pre-wired cabinet dramatically simplifying installation and reducing setup time by up to 50%.
The ESA is available in two platforms. The single-phase range covers 3 kW to 10 kW inverter sizes for most Australian homes. The three-phase range covers 5 kW to 30 kW for larger homes and small businesses, with storage from 5 kWh up to 108 kWh rated capacity from up to 12 battery modules. GoodWe now offers four module sizes (5, 6, 8 and 9 kWh), and modules of different capacities, including older and newer modules, can be combined in the one system. That means your battery can grow with your household rather than being replaced.
Whether you’re looking to reduce your electricity bills, achieve greater energy independence, or ensure backup power during grid outages, the GoodWe ESA battery review consensus is clear: this is one of the most capable, feature-rich home batteries on the Australian market today.

Key Features
One of the most capable all-in-one solar battery systems available in Australia, combining layered safety, strong value and hardware designed for local conditions.
Modular & Scalable Design
Choose from 5, 6, 8 and 9 kWh battery modules and combine different sizes in one system, including newer modules alongside older ones. Start with the capacity you need now and add modules as your household grows. Three-phase systems scale up to 12 modules for 108 kWh of rated storage.
Millisecond UPS Switchover
When the grid drops out, the ESA switches to backup power in under 4 milliseconds. Lights stay on, Wi-Fi stays connected and appliances keep running, with no reset clocks or rebooted devices. A dual-port design and internal bypass of 63 A (or 80 A on 25 kW and 30 kW three-phase models) support whole-home backup.
AI Energy Management
The ESA’s built-in artificial intelligence predicts tomorrow’s solar output and your household’s energy usage using weather forecast data and electricity tariff information. It automatically schedules charging and discharging for maximum savings so your system is always working harder than you need to think about it.
Fanless Convection Cooling
The ESA is designed to be easy to live with. Battery modules operate at 29 dB or less, and three-phase power modules from 5 kW to 8 kW run as quietly as 30 dB at 25°C using smart fan cooling. In a garage or utility room, you are unlikely to notice it is running.
Six-Layer Safety System
Every ESA battery module includes integrated aerosol fire extinguishing, and the system adds AI-driven AFCI 3.0 arc fault detection, layered thermal management and the inherent stability of LiFePO4 chemistry. Most modules also include integrated heating, allowing charging at temperatures as low as -20°C, which matters for cold garages in the Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands and Canberra region.
IP66 All-Weather Rating
Install it in a garage, utility room, under a carport or outdoors. Both the power module and battery modules carry an IP66 rating, so the ESA handles Australia’s full range of conditions, from salty coastal air to dry inland heat.

Each ESA battery module measures 800 mm wide × 326 mm high × 270 mm deep, and the three-phase power module measures 800 mm × 340 mm × 270 mm. Modules stack vertically, so total height grows with every module you add. For example, a three-phase power module with four battery modules stands approximately 1,644 mm tall before base and clearances. Single-column stacks are limited to six modules. Always allow the clearances specified in the GoodWe installation manual.
The official GoodWe ESA battery datasheet is available to download directly from this page via the Downloads section above. It covers full technical specifications for both single-phase and three-phase variants, including inverter specs, battery module data, input/output power ratings, and safety certifications. Always ensure you are using the most current version — check the date on the document. The latest version is also available through the official GoodWe website.
On the three-phase ESA, the maximum short circuit current is 26 A per MPPT on 5 kW to 20 kW models. On 25 kW and 30 kW models, two of the four MPPTs accept two strings each and are rated at 52 A, with the other two at 26 A. These values are used to size DC protection under AS/NZS 3000 and AS/NZS 5033. Solar National’s CEC-accredited installers handle protection sizing on every installation, and always confirm values against the current datasheet.
Yes. The three-phase ESA covers 5 kW to 30 kW with up to 108 kWh of rated storage, suited to larger homes and small businesses on a three-phase supply. Backup output is delivered across all three phases, with switchover in under 4 milliseconds and an internal bypass of 63 A or 80 A depending on the model.
Thanks to the pre-wired, all-in-one design outlined in the GoodWe ESA battery installation manual, installation time is up to 50% faster than comparable systems requiring separate inverter and battery commissioning. Most residential installations are completed within a single day. Solar National’s CEC-accredited installers follow the official manual and manufacturer guidelines to ensure a safe, warranty-valid installation every time.
The GoodWe ESA Battery carries a 10-year Australian product and performance warranty. This covers both the battery modules and the inverter component. Warranty validity requires installation by a CEC-accredited installer following the GoodWe ESA installation manual. Refer to the Solar National warranty documentation for full terms and conditions.
All four modules use LiFePO4 chemistry with 100% depth of discharge and integrated aerosol fire suppression. The newer 6 kWh and 9 kWh modules carry a higher cycle rating of at least 10,000 cycles, compared with at least 8,000 for the 5 kWh and 8 kWh modules, and charge at temperatures down to -20°C. The 5 kWh and 8 kWh modules support higher charge and discharge power per module. Your Solar National designer will recommend the right mix for your usage.
Yes. GoodWe designed the ESA to support mixing modules of different capacities, including older and newer modules, in the one system. This makes it practical to add storage years after your first installation without replacing what you already own.
Yes. Most ESA modules include integrated heating, allowing charging from as low as -20°C, and all modules discharge from -20°C to +55°C. For homes in colder parts of NSW and the ACT, this keeps the battery ready to store solar energy even after a frosty night.
